We believe that academic success stems from establishing consistent study habits. By investing just an additional hour each day, students can develop the study habits that will equip them to be lifelong learners. Establishing these habits in their formative years through engagement in activities such as reading, writing, and problem solving can yield significant and enduring benefits for academic achievement.
"We hold the belief that the path to academic excellence should begin at a young age. Research indicates that students who do not demonstrate advanced abilities by the third grade may find it challenging to maintain academic competitiveness especially later in the high school years."
"The decision of the UC’s and Cal State’s test blind admissions and many private schools’ test optional admissions puts South Pasadena students at a disadvantage. With the removal of SAT/ACT test scores, students’ GPA becomes the primary criteria for selection along with taking AP classes (many elite private schools will require SAT/ACT in the coming years). When compared to other schools in Los Angeles County, South Pasadena students must work harder because of the rigor and expectations at SPHS as well as the limiting prerequisites for AP classes. Although this is a positive attribute of SPHS, nonetheless it puts SPHS students at a disadvantage when compared to other high schools when applying to colleges. It becomes evident that students in SPUSD must prepare early, in the primary grades, to be at the top of their class and be competitive in the college selection process."

"While parents often invest in private coaches and competitive club teams for their children's athletic development, we tend to rely solely on schools for academic progress. This neglects the potential for students to excel beyond what the classroom can offer, akin to expecting an athlete to reach their full potential through school PE alone."
